Ronald McDonald Charity
In celebration of the holiday season and in recognition of Sevan’s core value of Charity, on December 1st the Downers Grove headquarters volunteered at a local Ronald McDonald House. Over the span of five hours, the group worked together to grocery shop, prepare and cook a homemade meal for twenty family members staying at the house. This service was in support of the “Meals From the Heart” program where our Sevan team members had the chance to help families in need from six nearby children’s hospitals.
During their time volunteering, our team was also given a tour which provided the opportunity to learn what goes on behind the scenes at Ronald McDonald House near Loyola University Medical Center. They learned that since its establishment in 1995, the eighteen bedroom House has helped more than 11,600 families by providing a ‘home away from home’, where families can stay together while their child is in the hospital.
Among the five Ronald McDonald Houses in the Chicago area, 153 families are able to remain together each night during the healing process. This year alone, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI) will provide 43,000 nights of care and comfort to families during their time of need. The mission of RMHC-CNI is to “care for families of children with complex medical needs by providing comfort, compassion and a sense of community”. The Chicagoland Ronald McDonald Houses are able to accomplish this by “allowing families to eat, sleep and find the emotional support they need – just blocks from where their child is being treated”. Volunteers from Sevan supported this mission by providing a delicious meal for all the families at Ronald McDonald House near Loyola, giving parents time together with their children and with the other families staying at the House.
We hope that this news update encourages other Sevan team members to reach out and lend a helping hand this holiday season and throughout the New Year. We also strongly encourage team members to share their stories with us to promote good causes and help spread the word for others who may be interested in getting involved. Please feel free to share your story of charitable involvement with Meghan Connor and Ed Veiga.
